you're gonna meet someone
When he'd graduated from the Academy, Jamie had hoped he'd be able to return. Hoped he'd be able to continue his learning, but thanks to genetics and shitty parents, he was forced to return home. Forced to get a job and help take care of his younger siblings. Thankfully, he'd managed to get a job at the library. A place he could still continue learning and make money at the same time. Today he'd gotten lucky and was on front desk duty. That meant a lot of downtime and plenty of time to read his current book.

His feet were kicked up on the desk, his legs crossed at the ankles, and a book lying in his lap. The book was about Mesopotamia. Jamie loved to learn about random things. The day before he'd finished a book about Bonobos and was in need of a new book. So, when he finished restocking the shelves he took the last book and decided to read it. So far Mesopotamia was much more interesting than he would have imagined. He was nearly halfway through the book already and would probably need a new book the next day. He enjoyed his process, occasionally he gave up taking the last book he returned to the shelves when he found a subject that really interested him, but for the most part he liked learning about many different things.

Just as he was about to flip the page, he spotted a girl approaching the desk. Dropping his feet, he stood up and plastered a smile on his face. "How can I help you, ma'am?" The truth was the girl was likely younger than he was but that didn't matter. It was policy to be polite to the guests and he would do whatever he had to to keep this job.

give a little time to me or burn this outIt wasn't often when Odette made trips to the library: if she wanted a book, it would be given to her immediately. For some reason, she had an urge to go to the public library. If it meant it would remove her from her apartment, then she was all for it. Sometimes she was bored with her surroundings. Her pink walls and pink bedding were hurting her eyes. Not literally, of course, but she was getting sick of looking at them all the time. She was tired of the big three in general: classes, work, and home. They were the only places she ventured, and now she was going to change that.Odette never really considered herself a homebody, but this week proved her wrong. She was so busy with everything she didn't have time to do things she wanted to do. Was going to the library something she wanted to do? Possibly. She hasn't been to Maple Hollow's library in years so she wanted to see what exactly has changed, if anything at all. Maybe she could check out a book or two-- she needed to add to her historical romance novel collection anyway. She slipped on her shoes, threw on her jacket, grabbed her purse and was off. Ten minutes later she arrived at the library and looked around. A satisfied grin was placed on her face. 'Nothing has changed,' she thought as she walked further in and was greeted with couches across from the reception's desk. Feet were propped up on the desk and she thought it was rude, but said nothing of it. He asked how could he help her after lowering his feet. He added the ma'm and she made a face. She was most certainly not a ma'm, but she tried to be civilized about it and say nothing. Ode smiled through it, but it faltered a bit as she took a closer glimpse at the employee. He looked familiar. Why did he look familiar? Have they met? "Excuse me for being frank, but have we..." Yes! They have! He was in the academy. They shared a few classes together and suddenly he disappeared. "Yes! I remember you. Umm..." she tapped her nails on the desk as she tried to remember his name. "It starts with a 'J' I think. James? Jimmy... Anyway, you disappeared from classes. Where did you go?" She looked around the library and raised a playful eyebrow. "Was this where you were hiding this entire time?" jamie | 420 | outfit | sorry for the delay

you're gonna meet someone
The girl standing in front of him looked a little familiar. He'd always been pretty good at remembering faces, names, not so much. But as he looked at her, he couldn't really place where he knew her from. Not a regular at the library, probably not one of his many siblings' friends, must have just been someone he'd seen around town a time or two. It wasn't as if Maple Hollow was all that big, everyone had probably seen every other person at least a few times in their lives. But he wasn't about to point out that he thought he probably had met her before. It would be his luck that she was some outsider who'd just moved to town because the Academy had come a calling and would think he was insane for asking if they'd met.

But he didn't have to worry about his own insanity because apparently she was even crazier and more willing to open her trap than he was. The way her tone suddenly got louder, the way she tapped her nails on the desk, the fact that she seemed to seriously be trying to figure out who he was, made him chuckle softly. He rubbed a hand over his short hair and chewed his lower lip, brow raised as he listened to her rambling. Once she finally seemed to pause for a breath, he shook his head at her attempts with his name. "It's Jamie." The words came out a bit clipped but he'd always had a hard time with these little things like small talk.

Even after she'd tried to figure out who he was, she kept talking. Rocking back on his heels he listened politely, trying to keep himself from laughing at her quite out there personality. No one had ever taken this kind of interest in him or where he'd gone after school. He'd never been the most outgoing person and didn't really think most people had even realized he hadn't followed a lot of the others on to university, but clearly someone had. And he wasn't quite sure how he felt about it. "Yeah, after graduation I got a job here." Explaining his life story to her and why he couldn't afford to go to college wasn't exactly in the books for day one of meeting. But he could try to be a little polite at least, so he decided he should probably ask about her. "And you're..." he searched his mind for a name and came up blank, "sorry, I've never been good with names. But uh, how've you been?"

give a little time to me or burn this outHe seriously did not remember her. Odette found that a little insulting, but she tried not to dwell too much on it. From what little information she could remember on him, he wasn't much of a talker. Not only that, but he interacted with very little people too. It was no surprise that he did not remember her, but it still hurt nonetheless. She forced herself to smile through the blank look he gave her and continue her trip down memory lane. "Jaime, yes. That's right," she said in a thoughtful tone. Sadly, that didn't bring too much memory to her. The young woman was always great with faces but not so much with names. He seemed a little annoyed with the fact that she couldn't remember his name. She couldn't help that; it wasn't her fault he made little impact in her memory banks due to his lack of conversations skills, or the want to conversate, in the past. It seemed that after graduation he found a job with the library. "Good for you," she commented and folded her hands together. He then asked for her name and she fought the urge to give a look of annoyance. "Odette," she said casually and looked around in the library. There was no point in continuing this conversation with him. If he was the same Jamie she remembered, he didn't care for talking with others. Odette never found it difficult to walk up to strangers and strike up a conversation, nor did she find it difficult to leave if the other person clearly did not want to be a part of it. "I suppose I should get to the point of why I'm here," she said curtly. "Where is your romance novel section?" She was back to being proper and polite Odette. Before she seemed a little carefree and in a light mood. The fact that he gave off the obvious aura of 'I don't want to be here right now' caused the light mood to vanish. jamie | 339 | outfit |

The thoughtful tone, which she'd spoke, made him smile just a tinge. He knew he hadn't been the type to stand out in school. Too busy studying and dealing with family matters to actually really have much of a life, he hadn't really been the type to get involved. Hadn't been the type to make many friends. But it was still kind of nice to know someone, especially someone he hadn't actually spoken too, remembered him, even a little bit. He didn't know why he even cared, but he did, just a little bit.

"It has been good for me, yes." He really wasn't sure what to say. He loved the library. Loved getting to read whatever he wanted to, pretty much whenever he wanted to. Loved that they were flexible with him when he had to be home to help out with the younger kids. Or when something unexpected came up with Rodney and Leslie. This job had basically been a godsend to him, one he didn't necessarily feel he deserved, but one he treasured more than anything else. Without this job he wasn't sure what he'd do. He'd probably have ended up in some fast food restaurant with no chance of actually getting out of it. Here at least he was learning, here at least he was bettering himself, with this job, maybe, just maybe one day he'd actually get to go back to school.

Odette. Yes, now he remembered her. She'd been a fellow thunder. They'd never really spoken but she'd been in a class or two of his and though she'd hung out with a crowd he'd never even think of trying to fit in with. She'd seemed nice enough. Waved to him through the years when they ended up in the same class again. A smile now and again. But they'd been part of two different worlds. Her rich and classy, him poor and trashy. Not that he'd have ever thought a girl like her would ever speak to him anyways, she was far too pretty, and so different than anything he could even think of relating to. "That's right, we had a few classes together at the Academy, didn't we?"

Look at him, small talk. His siblings would be so proud. But then suddenly her tone changed and Jamie felt like he was experiencing whiplash. He cleared his throat and blinked a couple of times just to make sure he hadn't imagined it all. But there she was suddenly looking like she realized how far above him she stood in the social ladder and couldn't believe she'd even deigned to speak to him. When he spoke again, his voice was completely deadpan. "To the right, three stacks back." He gestured vaguely. "Do you need me to show you or do you think you can find it yourself?"
